Present at the Kartódromo Internacional da Região Oeste (KIRO) in Bombarral for the fourth stage of the X30 Mini Portuguese Karting Championship, Xavier Lázaro had a very positive performance on the first of the two days of the event organized by ACDME.
After having a less efficient performance in the timed qualifying sessions, where he qualified 11th (52.608s) among the 14 participants (just over a second behind the pole position holder), the young driver from Cabo Júnior Team performed quite well during the afternoon, immediately securing the eighth position in the first Qualifying Heat. Lázaro started from 11th place and was immediately disadvantaged at the start as his side of the starting grid got momentarily held back behind a driver who had a poor start to the race. Nevertheless, the driver from Várzea de Sintra 'tightened his fists' to chase after the lost time, managing to recover as much as possible to ultimately finish eighth.
Later, in Race 1, Xavier Lázaro started from eighth but ended up losing two positions during the race, finishing in 10th place. In his first season in the category, the reigning champion in the Initiation class continues to demonstrate consistency in his progress, focused on learning as much as possible.
"In general terms, I think Xavier did very well on this first day of racing, even though things didn't start off well in the Timed Practices", said Vasco Lázaro. "I think he could have and knew he could do better in practice. In the races, however, the story was quite different. In the first one, he overcame a poor start from the karts in front of him and recovered as much as possible, always maintaining a very good pace. In the second race, he couldn't translate his performance into results, but nevertheless, I am very happy with the attitude he consistently showed, very combative and focused on the need to always finish the races".
