At the age of eight, Xavier Lázaro has no rest in what has been his debut season in a new karting category. After participating in the Portuguese Karting Championship and the Portugal Cup in the X30 Mini, the driver from Várzea de Sintra is now gearing up for his international competitive debut, driving the Mini DR. Xavier Lázaro is already in Italy to take part in the WSK Final Cup at Adria Karting Raceway.

" The goal is to provide 'Xavi' with his first international experience in a highly demanding competition, where undoubtedly the best drivers in the world in the Mini category will be present", said his father, Vasco Lázaro, upon leaving Portugal.

The 2020 Portugal Karting Champion in the Initiation category had his first season in X30 Mini this year, a similar but less powerful category compared to Mini. The driver, who recently turned eight, had a very positive learning season, progressing at each stage and showing promising signs for the future. Now comes a well-deserved reward, the 'baptism of fire' among the best of the best, within the structure of Danilo Rossi.

"This participation in Italy is just another step in Xavier's learning process for us", said Vasco Lázaro. "He had good performances in the test sessions conducted this year in Italy, and considering the level he displayed in Portugal, I thought this would be a logical step still this season. It allows us to analyze the paths to follow in the next year".

A total of 126 drivers are registered to compete this week in the Mini category, featuring some of the best in the field. Official free practice sessions in Adria will begin tomorrow. Xavier Lázaro will be quite active throughout the weekend in what is his most challenging challenge in his young karting career.

"Competitively, the achievable goal for this week is for Xavier to finish as many races as possible, thereby covering more and more kilometers. Finishing every race he participates in would be excellent", said Vasco Lázaro. "Objectively, he comes to this event to continue his learning, and over the various days of the competition, he will practice and race more than almost the entire season that concluded in Portugal. At the same time, it will also be necessary to monitor his adaptation to a new kart and to the DR team structure".
