The year 2021 was unusual in Xavier Lázaro's still short competitive journey. On the one hand, the season started with the 2020 edition of the Portuguese Cup, a race the driver won in his final appearance behind the wheel of the Initiation kart, the same one with which he became the national champion. On the other hand, it marked a new path for the future with the 'promotion' to the X30 Mini category.
The five stages of the championship were a tremendous learning experience for the driver from Várzea de Sintra, who improved his performance on the track, accumulating lessons and experiences that will undoubtedly be useful in the future. In what was a challenging season, all set goals were achieved, although some with greater or lesser difficulty. Xavier was a determined driver, always aware of his abilities and limitations compared to the competition. Behind the wheel of the X30 Mini, he had time to learn and showcase his potential and talent, race after race. The Portuguese Cup, which is the grand 'Karting Festival' in our country, will be an important event for the eight-year-old to have fun and unwind, while his future continues to be defined in a calculated and step-by-step manner.

“"This is the event that marks the end of a very intense season, especially considering that Xavier is still very young",the father, Vasco Lázaro, stated. "This year, 'Xavi' knew that he was going through a learning period in a new, much more demanding category than Initiation. He always assumed a posture of great thirst for learning and finishes the season in Portugal with tremendous growth, much more prepared to start competing at the highest level.
"This weekend, above all, I want him to have fun on the track, on a layout that he enjoys", concluded Vasco Lázaro.
The Portuguese Cup Karting Festival, organized by the Motor Sports Nucleus of Leiria (NDML), takes place this weekend at the International Karting Circuit in the city of Leiria.
