Xavier Lázaro performed at the highest level this weekend at the first stage of the WSK Euro Series held at the Italian track of Franciacorta. In the Mini Sub-10 category behind the wheel of the official DR, the young Portuguese driver (who recently turned 10) demonstrated his progress in nearly a year of international competitions, showcasing a lot of talent and potential on the track.
In the first of two stages in one of the various competitions on the annual WSK Promotion calendar, Xavier Lázaro began to demonstrate his capabilities from the Qualifying session. He emerged with the 3rd best overall time among the 53 drivers from various countries present at Franciacorta. The Portuguese driver's time of 54.707 seconds, although quite fast, was influenced by a slower driver ahead of him.

Na Eliminatória 2, Xavier Lázaro liderou da segunda à penúltima volta, acabando por ser surpreendido antes da linha meta, que cruzou no 4º posto. Na derradeira Eliminatória, Xavier Lázaro chegou em primeiro lugar, mas foi penalizado em cinco segundos por ter tocado David Moscardi, quando este fez um ‘brake check’ na sua frente. A DR ainda protestou a penalização aplicada ao piloto português, mas a organização alegou não ter como medir a travagem do piloto transalpino da Birel.
A Lot of Maturity in the Pre-Final
Xavier Lázaro started the Pre-Final A in fifth position. The driver from Várzea de Sintra was aware of the importance of a good result in this race, crucial for starting in the front rows of the Final. With a good start, Lázaro quickly positioned himself in the top five, and in the early laps of the race, he even climbed to fourth place. Two laps before the end, he took over the third position and held onto it. Competitive, with a good understanding of the race, and displaying maturity, the young DR driver secured a place in the top seven for the Final.
His Best Result To Date in the WSK
Logo no arranque da Final da Mini Sub-10, Xavier Lázaro saltou para a terceira posição, seguindo ‘na cola’ de Daniel Miron (KR) e David Moscardi (Birel). No entanto, na terceira volta, o português foi ultrapassado por Niccolo’ Perico (Energy Corse) que pouco depois se despistou à sua frente. Para evitar o italiano, o jovem da DR teve que sair ligeiramente de pista, sujando os pneus antes de perder momentaneamente a concentração e cair para 10º. Sem virar a cara à luta, Xavier Lázaro recuperou o foco e teve uma notável ponta final, para terminar a prova no sexto lugar. Com este desempenho, o português não só mostrou que vai ser preciso contar com ele para o restante do calendário, como assumiu a sexta posição da classificação na WSK Euro Series.
“Estou muito satisfeito com o desempenho do Xavier todo o fim de semana”, said his father, Vasco Lázaro. “Toda a sua evolução, especialmente em corrida e nos momentos mais tensos, ficou patente este fim de semana. O Xavier esteve competitivo, não fraquejou e soube gerir muito bem os diversos momentos quentes que viveu nas várias corridas este fim de semana. É muito difícil competir aqui, mas aos 10 anos, o Xavier está a crescer na pista. Estamos cada vez mais motivados”.
Xavier Lázaro will now take a few weeks of rest before returning to Italy on September 22nd to compete in the 5th and final stage of the ACI Italian Karting Championship, once again at Franciacorta.
