Xavier Lázaro is already at the Kartódromo Internacional da Região Oeste (KIRO) to compete in the fourth and penultimate stage of the Portuguese Karting Championship. In Bombarral, the young racer from Várzea de Sintra will continue his first season in the X30 Mini category, after becoming National Champion in the Initiation category last year.
At seven years old, in a new category where he is clearly the youngest driver, Xavier Lázaro approaches his progress behind the wheel of an X30 Mini kart with great seriousness. For the race organized by ACDME, Xavier Lázaro arrives in good form to be competitive in the Kart Republic of the Cabo Júnior Team. Throughout the second half of July and also in August, the young racer from Várzea de Sintra has been very active, testing and training in Portugal and Italy, to arrive at the West Region stage with a bit more experience and knowledge, something that is crucial in the first season in a new category.
“Foi mais de um mês sem corridas, já tinha muitas saudades de competir”, disse Xavier Lázaro, radiante por poder reencontrar-se com o ‘paddock’ do Campeonato de Portugal de Karting. “Desde a etapa de Baltar, treinei e testei com alguma regularidade. Acho que estou cada vez mais confortável ao volante do X30 Mini e agora só quero é que comecem as corridas. Gosto muito da pista do Bombarral e espero ter um bom fim de semana ao volante do Kart Republic”.
For a young boy of only seven years old, the first season in X30 Mini is proving to be intense. Before arriving at this race, Xavier Lázaro trained with his team regularly, and also traveled to Italy for his second out-of-country test this year at the Adria Karting Raceway.
“O grande objetivo para este ano tem sido preparar o Xavier o melhor possível nesta categoria, já que é novidade para ele. Por isso, para além do programa definido em Portugal com o Cabo Júnior Team, acrescentaram-se até agora duas sessões de testes em Itália, com a DR”, said the father of the driver, Vasco Lázaro. “Tanto em Portugal como em Itália, tem sido possível entregar experiência e conhecimento ao Xavier, algo que decerto o vai ajudando para o presente e futuro. Estou em crer que ele vai estar bem no Bombarral, por ser um traçado que muito lhe agrada”.
