Xavier Lázaro concluded his participation in the Karting KIA Portugal Championship this weekend in Braga. In his debut season in the X30 Mini category, the reigning champion in the Initiation class once again showed a very good level behind the wheel of the Kart Republic of Cabo Junior Team, achieving good results in the event organized by ACDME at the Braga International Karting Circuit (KIB).
On Saturday, Xavier Lázaro had already shown signs of becoming increasingly comfortable in the X30 Mini category, where he made his debut this year and is the youngest driver. Yesterday, he showed strength once again, even better than the previous day, particularly in terms of competitive posture. In the Qualifying sessions, Xavier Lázaro set his best lap time at 1m01.807s, a result that left him 0.887s behind the pole position.
Na 2ª Manga de Qualificação, o jovem da Várzea de Sintra esteve forte, saindo muito bem para a corrida de 10 voltas. Combativo e muito competitivo, Xavier Lázaro ‘galgou’ posições até onde foi possível, concluindo a prova num positivo oitavo lugar. A sua melhor volta da corrida ficou registada em 1m01, 296, a pouco mais de três décimas da volta mais rápida.
“Mais uma vez o Xavier esteve forte, reagindo de forma convincente ao posicionamento que trazia dos Cronometrados”,the father, Vasco Lázaro, stated. “Ele está melhor a cada dia, física, técnica e psicologicamente. Além disso, está-se a divertir em pista”.
In Race 2, Xavier Lázaro had a good start, although he couldn't avoid a collision that damaged the nose of the Kart Republic. The race was interrupted due to an accident, but when it resumed, the driver from Cabo Junior Team once again showed strength in fighting for the top positions, engaging in battles with some much more experienced opponents. After the 13 laps of the race, Xavier Lázaro finished in 11th place. This result doesn't reflect the young eight-year-old's good performance in what was the final race of the year in the Karting KIA Portugal Championship. The penalty imposed for the damage to the Kart Republic's nose was decisive for Xavier Lázaro to finish outside the top 10. Nevertheless, both the overall season assessment and the driver's performance in Braga are widely positive.
“Não posso esconder que estou muito contente com o desempenho do Xavier este fim de semana”, said Vasco Lázaro. “Ele está cada vez mais forte. Sinto-o mais confortável ao volante do X30 Mini e digo isso a todos os níveis. Ele hoje teve que gerir também as suas emoções, pois o acidente que levou à interrupção da corrida 2, em que um piloto se magoou numa perna, acabou por psicologicamente o afetar um pouco. Ainda assim, reagiu bem e foi à luta com alguns dos seus adversários. Analisando bem o percurso dele desde o início do ano noto enorme evolução, o que me deixa otimista para o futuro”.
Having completed his first season in the X30 Mini category of the Karting KIA Portugal Championship, Xavier Lázaro was happy but already focused on the next race. “Estou contente pelo meu desempenho no campeonato”, said the eight-year-old. “Esta foi uma temporada de aprendizagem e já me sinto muito mais confortável no kart. Agora quero já começar a concentrar-me na Taça de Portugal, uma prova de que gosto muito. Quero agradecer aos meus pais pelo apoio que sempre me dão. Quero também agradecer ao Cabo Júnior Team, nomeadamente ao Jacinto Gameiro e também ao José Cabo”.
