Xavier Lázaro raced in the second round of the WSK Super Master Series this weekend, held at the Cremona Circuit in Italy. In the event that marked his debut with a new team, the British SM Racing, Xavier Lázaro proved to be highly competitive behind the wheel of the Gillard with a TM engine, to which he adapted very quickly.
Com a chuva a marcar presença durante todo o fim de semana de forma intensa, no Circuito de Cremona, o jovem de 10 anos desde bem cedo se mostrou confortável ao volante do novo equipamento, conseguindo bons desempenhos na fase preliminar desta etapa da competição promovida pela WSK Promotion. Depois de ser 16º no Qualifying (8º na sua série), na Mini Sub 10 (54 pilotos presentes em Cremona), os desempenhos do piloto português sobressaíram nas Heats que determinam o posicionamento na Pré-Final. Terminando em 4º na primeira Heat (depois relegado para 9º por danos no bico causados por um toque em Niccolo’ Perico na volta de lançamento), o jovem da Várzea de Sintra confirmou a quarta posição na Heat 2, após ter largado do oitavo lugar. Um problema no carburador do seu kart condicionou de forma determinante o ritmo de Xavier Lázaro na derradeira Heat, o que fez com que o português terminasse apenas no 24º lugar.
This morning, Xavier Lázaro started the Pre-Final from the 12th position. With a remarkable race on a rain-spec track, the SM Racing driver was active and efficient, consistently moving up positions to finish the race in 5th place. Unfortunately, due to the points earned by Xavier Lázaro in Qualifying and the Heats, he could not improve his starting position for the Final, beginning in 20th place. In a challenging race, with the track both wet and dry in some sections, the Portuguese driver couldn't find his best pace, gaining only two positions in the race and finishing in 18th place.
Xavier Lázaro continues his extensive competitive schedule for 2024 next weekend with the third round of the WSK Super Master Series in Franciacorta.

Xavier Lázaro estreou-se em competição com a sua nova equipa, a britânica SM Racing. Esta foi uma mudança repentina no ‘mundo’ do jovem piloto português que estava já a entrar no seu terceiro ano com a DR. Após a 2ª etapa da WSK Super Master Series, em Lonato, Xavier Lázaro foi convidado para um projeto extremamente aliciante com a SM Racing, equipa pertencente a Oliver Oakes, um Campeão do Mundo de karting que é personagem importante no mundo do desporto motorizado, sendo também o Team Principal e diretor da Hitech Grand Prix.
For 2024, with SM Racing, Xavier Lázaro will maintain his entire sports program, which includes participating in the entire WSK Promotion calendar, as well as the Italian Karting Championship and some karting events taking place in Italy. In addition to an extensive competition schedule, Xavier Lázaro will also have an intense program of testing and training with a highly professionalized structure.
Good Performances in Qualifying, Heats, and Pre-Final
With Xavier Lázaro's sudden switch to a new team, there was some concern about the performance of the Portuguese driver in the 2nd round of the WSK Super Master Series, as he had to undergo an adaptation process to the Gillard, with its own specific features, particularly in terms of brakes. However, Xavier Lázaro adapted very quickly to his new equipment, immediately showing competitiveness in the Qualifying session. The Portuguese driver was the eighth fastest in his group and 16th overall, trailing by about eight-tenths of a second from the pole position.
Com chuva intensa nos primeiros dois dias da prova em Cremona, Xavier Lázaro foi muito competente nas Heats. O resultado na Heat 1 foi condicionado por um toque na traseira de Niccolo’ Perico durante a volta de lançamento, que danificou o bico do Gillard do piloto português. Largando de oitavo, com uma boa corrida, Xavier Lázaro terminou no 4º lugar, mas com a penalização foi relegado para nono. Na Heat 2, o jovem da Várzea de Sintra tornou a fazer uma boa prova, subindo posições de forma consistente, para terminar em quarto. Na Heat 3, o português estava motivado para de novo ser eficiente em prova, mas um problema de carburador acabou por condicionar o ritmo do Gillard com motor TM, acabando por Xavier Lázaro não conseguir melhor que a 24ª posição.
Com a soma dos resultados, o piloto da SM Racing saiu da 12ª posição para a disputa da Pré-Final B. Com mais um bom desempenho em pista, Xavier Lázaro foi subindo posições para terminar no 6º lugar. No entanto, fruto de uma penalização a Niccolo’ Perico por posicionamento irregular no início da prova, o piloto português subiu ao 5º lugar.
Despite the good performance in the Pre-Final, once again due to the accumulation of points in Qualifying and Heats, Xavier Lázaro started the Final of Mini Sub 10 in 20th place. With no rain during the finals and the KZ2 race taking place before Mini Sub 10, the track was very challenging, slippery, with a dry racing line. As drivers chose to race with dry tires, Xavier Lázaro started and gained several positions on the first lap but struggled to cope with the track conditions, making mistakes in braking for the turns, which affected his performance. At the end of the race, the Portuguese driver finished in 18th place, gaining two positions from the starting position.
Ainda que o resultado da Final não tenha sido o melhor, Xavier Lázaro esteve bem no fim de semana, entrando de forma positiva e com bons desempenhos na sua ‘nova casa’ a SM Racing. O piloto português sentiu-se bem recebido e agradado com o nível da equipa e a sua capacidade de trabalho, realçando o empenho e dedicação de todos os seus membros durante o fim de semana, em especial os conselhos do Oliver, do Stephen Mcneill (chefe de equipa) e Colin Mcnair (mecânico de Xavier Lázaro em Cremona).
