With the first day of the penultimate stage of the Portuguese Karting Championship KIA at the International Kartodrome of Braga concluded, Xavier Lázaro positioned himself closer to clinching the national title in the Initiation category. Driving the Birel/Honda for Cabo Júnior Team, the youngster from Várzea de Sintra began by setting the fastest time in the timed practice sessions (1m32.747), leaving his closest rival almost a second behind (+0.928s).
During the afternoon, Xavier Lázaro solidified his dominance of the day by winning both qualifying heats, although the competition narrowed the gap. In the first qualifying heat, Lázaro finished the race with a 0.240s advantage over Francisco Correia, his main rival in the title race. In the final race of the day (2nd MQ), the driver from Cabo Júnior Team managed a 0.207s lead over Francisco Correia. The results obtained instill confidence for tomorrow's activities, with the Pre-Final and Final races ahead.
